Our story began in 1991 when Leonard “Woody” Wood, a seasoned technician from Southern States Nissan, founded this humble repair shop. Woody, motivated by a desire to escape the pressures of dealership life, coupled with some health challenges, chose to forge his own path. He built our establishment on the principles of unparalleled customer service, driven by a genuine concern for our patrons and a deep sense of camaraderie among the team.
Young Alton Barbour, Woody’s godson, was a fixture at the shop from the age of 13. Starting with humble duties like cleaning up and taking out the trash during school vacations, Alton’s connection to the shop and its essence grew over the years. After a successful stint as a chef, Alton made the heartfelt decision to join Choice Auto Repair full-time about 16 years ago. This decision was spurred by the birth of his children and his realization that he wanted to spend more quality time with his family.
In 2015, with Woody’s retirement, Alton proudly took the helm. Under his leadership, our ethos remains unchanged. We’re not just a team – we’re a “family away from family.” We pride ourselves on being hardworking, fun-loving, and low-drama. When you step into our shop, you aren’t just another customer; you become a part of our Choice Auto Repair family.
Outside the hustle of the shop, Alton is a man of diverse passions. From volunteering with the Triangle Z Car Club, mastering the drums, indulging in woodworking, to showing off his chef skills in the kitchen – he does it all with zest. But his most cherished moments are those spent with his family. He’s a proud father of twin daughters, both of whom are currently pursuing nursing at ECU, and a son who’s shining on the JV football team at Broughton High School. GO CAPS!
